About M.A.D.
M.A.D. (Monifieth Amateur Dramatics) was founded by Marion Goodfellow
on the 15th of October 2003 and has gone from strength to strength.
We have performed full length plays, one act plays, an old
time music hall extravaganza to raise money for Tsunami Murder Mystery
Evenings and various small performances for local organisations. We have also performed at the Edinburgh
Festival fringe.
Our performances have helped Monifieth Befriending Scheme, Ninewells Cancer
Campaign, Monifieth Girl Guides, Monifieth Library, Medieval Fair and the
British Heart Foundation, The special Olympics.
We currently have 40 members (and several more who help when we put the shows
on) all headed by our Madame Chairperson, Christian Gourlay. None of us get
paid - it’s voluntary - as MAD is a registered charity. We all do it out of
the kindness of our hearts (and
craving for an audience).
There is a social side to the group: After-show parties where the older
members prove they can keep partying long after the younger ones were fast
asleep! A recent outing to The Dundee Rep - to see how the professionals do
it. A few of us often pop into the pub to discuss our performances (and eat
Scampi Fries).
There's more to the group than acting so why not come along and see how you
can help us. No previous experience necessary - see what new skills you could
learn.
